1. What presidential address did you review? (Work in pairs - share your work. Listen for instructions.)

"Neat People vs. Sloppy People"

3. Writing Introductions:

Writing Conclusions

Using Transitions

4. Time to add an introduction and conclusion to your comparison contrast outline!  You also need to add transitions.

Remember: You writing to convince the reader that one of your two items is superior to the other.

5. Quick Write: This activity is designed to help you clarify your opinion on the comparison/contrast topic you selected.

For five minutes, you will write to convince the audience that Topic 1 is superior to Topic 2.

Share

For the next five minutes, you will write to convince the audience that Topic 2 is superior to Topic 1. This activity will help you to know the opposition. You can't convince the opposition if you do not know what they think, feel, and believe about your topic.

For five more minutes, you will write and explain what you need to do as the author to convince the readers that your choice is the correct choice.

6. Your Comparison/Contrast draft is due on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the beginning of class. Be sure you have it posted in CANVAS by then. A peer editing activity is required at that time.

7. Something to consider: Looking at Art
  • What is the title of the work? How does the title help you to understand the message? What is the message?
  • What is the most obvious image in the work. To where is your eye drawn?
  • Look at the colors. Are they symbolic? Would the message be different if the colors were different? Explain.
  • Study the shading and shadowing. How do these elements impact the overall message?
  • Who is the artist? When was the work created? Is the artist's message about a specific event in history? What was going on in the world when the work was created? Is the art universal - speaks to people of all times and in all places, or is it limited to the audience for whom it was created.
  • How does the work relate to us in 21st century America?
  • How does the work relate to the literature studied?
Locate two works of art - one for each of your comparison/contrast topics.
Answer the questions for each.
Post in Canvas.
Use what you find as evidence in your essay that you are correct - your favorite topic IS the best!

If time permits, we will take a look at rocks!
